Following SSU’s investigation, PMC ‘Wagner’ mercenary, who stormed AFU positions near Bakhmut, to stand trial
The SSU has collected evidence on another militant of the russian private company ‘Wagner’, who took part in warfare against the Defence Forces on the eastern front.
Ukrainian defenders captured the occupier in late December 2022 during combat near Bakhmut.
According to the investigation, the accused is a 23-year-old citizen of one of the Central Asian states who was serving a sentence in Tyumen correctional colony, russia, for rape.
Last October, ‘Wagner’ representatives offered him to join the PMC to participate in the war against Ukraine.
According to the contract, he was promised RUB 200,000 and ‘annulment’ of his conviction.
A month later, he and other convicts, who had joined the ‘Wagner’ group, arrived in Rostov and received military uniforms, weapons and ammunition.
The mercenaries were sent to a ‘training ground’ in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk oblast.
However, due to absence of combat training instructors, the ‘course’ never took place.
In early December 2022, the militant was transferred to the eastern front, where he was soon taken prisoner.
The SSU has served the individual a notice of suspicion under Article 447.4 of the CCU (mercenarism).
The suspect is in custody, facing up to 10 years in prison.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the investigation under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
