Zakarpattia: SSU serves suspicion notice to village council member who detonated grenades during council’s meeting

SSU investigators have qualified the explosion of three combat grenades during a meeting of Keretsky village council in Zakarpattia region as a terrorist act that led to grave consequences.

The perpetrator, the council’s member, has been served a notice of suspicion under Article 258.2 of the CCU (terrorist act).

The explosion injured 23 people, including the suspect. Yesterday they were hospitalized to several local medical institutions. These are 16 men and 7 women aged 28 to 68. They suffered injuries of varying severity, most of them – shrapnel wounds.

The suspect was detained; he regained consciousness and is currently in the hospital under the supervision of doctors and law enforcement. The court will later choose a measure of restraint.

The law enforcement agencies have searched the suspect’s home, where, among other things, they found a suicide note, the content of which is currently being studied.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing and is conducted under the procedural supervision of Zakarpattia Region Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court’s verdict.
