SSU declares russian general and his subordinates suspects: they tortured ATO veteran during Kherson occupation
The SSU and the National Police have collected evidence against 11 russian war criminals involved in mass repressions and killings of civilians after the capture of Kherson.
This time, the Service documented the crimes of russian police major general Yuriy Zavyalov, deputy head of the main directorate of the russian ministry of internal affairs in Krasnoyarsk krai, and his subordinates.
At the request of gauleiter Saldo, the kremlin sent them in July 2022 to the then-occupied Kherson to carry out so-called ‘mopping up operations’ among local population.
To organize the repressive measures, Zavyalov was appointed head of the occupation ‘directorate of the russian ministry of internal affairs in Kherson region’.
Another two russian police colonels, Gennady Beryozin and Yuri Zakavryashin, were appointed ‘deputy heads’ of the pseudo-institution.
These three enemy officials organized ruscist groups that abducted Kherson residents and escorted them to the occupation torture chamber, run by Andriy Spivak, a 38-year-old senior lieutenant of the russian police.
On Zavyalov’s orders, his subordinate used brutal torture against prisoners, including beatings and starvation.
It was on Spivak’s orders that a 54-year-old veteran of the Anti-Terrorist Operation was electrocuted to death.
During the liberation of Kherson, Zavyalov and his subordinates fled to russia, where they received kremlin awards. To conceal the war crimes, their personal data in the personal files in russia were changed.
However, this did not help them. The SSU and the National Police identified each of the persons involved.
Zavyalov, Beryosin, Zakavryashyn, Spivak and six other individuals were notified of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2, 438.2 of the CCU (violation of the laws and customs of war, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The actions of one of the offenders were qualified under Articles 28.2, 27.5, 438.2 of the CCU (aiding and abetting in the cruel treatment of civilians combined with intentional murder).
Efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. Each of the russian war criminals will be found and punished.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Kherson Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
