Investigation of stealing natural gas worth UAH 250 mln: notices of suspicion served to persons involved
The SSU is protecting critical infrastructure of the oil and gas sector. Following the SSU investigation, notices of suspicion were served to two participants of the scheme of misappropriation of natural gas, which was reserved for the use by government agencies of the Ministry of Finance.
In February 2020, the SSU blocked an attempt to illegally extract over 40 000 000 m3 of natural gas from state storage facilities. Due to the prompt response, it was possible to prevent budget losses of over UAH 250 mln (USD 9 mln).
The investigation established that two representatives of a commercial entity were involved in the illegal activity aiming to appropriate industrial volumes of gas.
To do this, the offenders counterfeited documents signed by the former Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine and handed them over to JSC Ukrtransgaz.
Through counterfeiting, they tried to obtain the right to dispose of tens of millions of cubic meters of natural gas in the state storage facilities.
The court is to decide on the measure of restraint.
The pre-trial investigation is underway to bring to justice other participants of the scheme.
The SSU is investigating the case together with the National Police investigators with the assistance from the Ministry of Finance, under the supervision the Prosecutor General’s Office.
