SBU investigation helps to initiate arrest of corrupt President of National Academy of Agrarian Sciences

The SBU exposed the President of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAASU) on bribe-taking and initiated custody as a type of detention. He is suspected of taking a bribe for assisting in filling the vacancy of NAASU academician.

The SBU exposed the official in December last year, when he received the suspicion notice. The SBU found out that the President of NAASU received an elite car for including the candidate in the list to fill the vacancy of an academician. For the "gift", he also guaranteed the further transfer of the necessary materials to the Presidium of NAASU. The official is also suspected of assisting in the illegal appointment of the head of one of the state-owned enterprises.

The pre-trial investigation upon the fact of taking a bribe is ongoing. The article provides for up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security together with the Department of Strategic Investigations and Investigators of the National Police of Ukraine, under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
