Following SSU’s investigation, another 4 militants, who fought on russia’s side, sentenced to prison terms
The court has convicted another 4 militants of the L/DNR terrorist organizations to 10 and 15 years in prison. The fighters participated in hostilities on Kharkiv, Luhansk and Donetsk directions as part of russian occupation forces.
In particular, the enemy ‘sniper/radioman’, captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Momotovo, Kharkiv region, was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment.
The convict is a 23-year-old citizen of russia, mobilized from Donetsk, who fought against the Ukrainian army in a separate rifle and sniper platoon of the 3rd battalion of the dnr’s 115th regiment of russian armed forces.
In his unit, he was responsible for field communications, controlled movement at roadblocks near Vesele, Kutuzivka, and Momotove and took part in combat near Bobrivka village.
The militant was taken prisoner along with his platoon during the liberation of Momotove.
Basing on the evidence collected by SSU investigators, the court found the accused guilty of participation in a terrorist group/organization (Article 258-3.1) and of participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed formations (Article 260.2 of the CCU).
Another militant, a native of Antratsyt, a rifleman of the 208th regiment of the so-called ‘lnr people’s militia’, was captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine during fighting near Rubizhne, Luhansk region.
Being a citizen of Ukraine, he was charged with treason for joining the enemy during an armed conflict.
The accused was convicted to 15 years of imprisonment under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (treason under martial law);
- 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group/organization);
- 260.2 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed formations).
Another two captured militants were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
One of them is a ‘senior rifleman’ of a grenade launcher platoon of the illegal military formation ‘lnr’, taken prisoner in the battle for Severodonetsk.
The pre-trial investigation established that the former miner had abandoned his job quite some time ago. Since 2006, he had been convicted for drug trafficking three times. After his last release in 2021, the man immediately joined the illegal armed formation.
Another convict is from Zymohirya, Luhansk region. The militant fought in the so-called ‘2nd army corps’ of russian occupation forces in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
Before russia’s large-scale invasion, in December 2021, he was mobilized and came to the front already as a ‘rifleman.’
His ‘combat experience’ started with storming Ukrainian positions near Kreminna.
After occupiers captured Severodonetsk, the ‘soldier’ participated in ‘clearing’: together with his unit, he broke into and robbed abandoned apartments.
In early August, Ukrainian defenders captured him along with another six fighters in close combat near Soledar, while the rest of their unit was destroyed.
The court found both militants guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 110.2 (trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine);
- 260.2 (participation in unlawful paramilitary or armed formations).
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions and the SSU Office in Ivano-Frankivsk region carried out pre-trial investigations under the procedural supervision of Luhansk and Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor’s offices.
