Following SSU’s investigation, another five ‘l/dnr’ militants, who captured Mariupol and Severodonetsk, sentenced to 13 years in prison

Based on the evidence collected by SSU investigators, five members of ‘l/dnr’ terrorist organizations were sentenced to real terms of imprisonment. Four of them were convicted to 13 years behind bars, one - to 10 years.

After the start of the full-scale invasion, they joined russian occupation forces and participated in the assault on Ukrainian towns in the east of our country.

Following the SSU’s investigation, four militants who took part in capturing Severodonetsk were sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Ukrainian defenders took the group prisoner in the combat near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region.

According to the investigation, the suspects were local residents who already before the full-scale invasion had joined the so-called ‘lnr’s 4th separate motorized rifle brigade’, which was part of russia’s 2nd army corps.

Serving in this unit, they took an active part in battles against Ukrainian Defence Forces on Luhansk direction.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 111 (high treason);
  • 258-3 (participation in a terrorist organization);
  • 260 (participation in unlawful armed groups).

One more militant was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigation, the suspect was a member of the so-called ‘dnr’s 105th rifle regiment’ of russia’s 1st army corps. Serving in the occupation forces, he took part in capturing Mariupol and other settlements of Azov region.

In July 2022, his unit was redeployed to the area of Maryinka, Donetsk region, where the invaders set up combat positions using armoured vehicles.

Ukrainian defenders hit the infantry fighting vehicle which the militant drove and detained him.

The court found the accused guilty under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist organization);
  • 260.2 (participation in unlawful armed groups);
  • 110.2 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability).

The SSU stresses the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine’s state security.

The investigations were conducted by the SSU Offices in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
