Sumy region: criminal group leader jailed

Following the SBU investigation, the court sentenced a criminal group leader to seven years in prison. The criminals planned armed attacks on the head of the united territorial community (OTG) and two businesspersons in Sumy region. The victims were threatened with tortures.

During the special operation in December 2020, the SBU officers prevented the crimes and detained the criminal group leader.

The gang included several locals, previously convicted for felony offences.

The SBU documented their preparation of the robbery attack on the head of OTG, the owner of an agricultural firm and another entrepreneur. The attackers planned to forcefully take money and property from the victims.

The court found the criminal group leader guilty of committing a crime. The verdict came into force.

Earlier, another criminal group member was convicted pursuant to the SBU materials.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Sumy region together with investigators of the regional department of the National Police, under the supervision of the Sumy Region Prosecutor's Office.
