SSU operation leads to conviction of transnational drug smugglers
The SSU operation has led to conviction of organizers of a transnational channel of smuggling precursors. The court sentenced the two perpetrators to 11 and 10 years in prison.
The smugglers were engaged in importing large consignments of pseudoephedrine to Ukraine. The drug was intended for production of psychotropic substances for sale.
The SSU officers detained the criminals in 2017 at Uhryniv checkpoint in Lviv region. 3,000 pills were seized from a hidden compartment equipped in their car.
The perpetrators were residents of Volyn region. One of them had previously been prosecuted.
According to the investigation, the criminals attempted to transport precursors to a drug lab in Rivne region, where they planned to produce methamphetamine for sale.
The court found the suspects guilty. The verdict came into force.
The SSU Office in Rivne region carried out the operation under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
