Organizers of arms trafficking prosecuted

Due to the SSU investigation, three organizers of transnational arms trafficking were sentenced to 12 years in prison. In Ukraine, the criminals illegally sold foreign-produced firearms.

The SSU seized Scorpion submachine guns and pistols with silencers.

The group also planned to sell large amounts of drugs, including cocaine.

The SSU detained the offenders in Uzhhorod during a special operation in May 2017.

It was established that the criminals illegally imported weapons and drugs from a European country. They looked for clients among their personal contacts, including in the criminal environment.

Investigators confiscated the following items:

  • four Scorpion submachine guns;
  • five pistols with silencers;
  • 600 cartridges of different caliber.

The SSU also seized 0.5 kilo of cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs.

The court found the organizers guilty of:

  • criminal offence committed by an organized group upon prior conspiracy;
  • unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives;
  • illegal production, making, purchasing, storage, transportation, sending and sale of narcotics, psychotropic substances or their analogues.

The sentence came into force.

The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Vinnytsia region under the supervision of Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
