Following SSU’s investigation, court sentences traitor who ‘guarded’ captured bridges in Zaporizhzhia region to 15 years in prison

Following an investigation by the SSU Military Counterintelligence, court convicted a militant of the terrorist organization DNR, who fought against Ukraine on the southern front as part of russia’s occupying groups, to imprisonment.

In late June this year, the man was detained by the SSU and units of Ukrainian Armed Forces during combat in Zaporizhzhia region.

The court sentenced the militant to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The convict is a resident of Donetsk region, who in 2015 joined the so-called ‘DNR people’s militia’. In the ‘position’ of a grenade launcher operator, he actively participated in military actions against ATO forces in the East of Ukraine.

With the beginning of russia’s full-scale aggression, he fought against Ukraine in the 129th rifle regiment of the 70th army of russian armed forces. The militant was on duty at the invaders’ checkpoints in the temporarily occupied villages of Zaozerne and Novohrygorivka, Kherson region.

Later, he was assigned to ‘guard’ captured bridges in Zaporizhzhia region, used by the enemy to transport weapons and ammunition to the front line.

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU during the investigation, the court found the accused guilty of treason committed under martial law and participation in unlawful armed groups.

The SSU warns: punishment for crimes against Ukraine’s state security is inevitable.

The arrest and investigation were carried out by the SSU Military Counterintelligence Department together with the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia Region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
