Following SSU’s investigation, court to try ex-MP Murayev who faces up to 15 years in prison
The SSU has completed a pre-trial investigation against the leader of the banned party Nashi, former parliament member Yevhen Murayev, involved in subversive activities against Ukraine.
The perpetrator used the TV channel Nash, controlled by him, to massively spread kremlin’s propaganda in Ukraine.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the indictment has been sent to the court.
As the SSU established, Murayev used his own media resource to provide distorted information about the internal situation in Ukraine.
In doing so, he assisted the aggressor in numerous attempts to destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine before russia’s full-scale invasion.
In connection with this, in early February 2022, the National Security and Defence Council imposed sanctions against the said TV channel.
SSU-initiated examinations confirmed Murayev’s anti-Ukrainian activities.
Based on the evidence, the former MP is charged under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.1 (high treason);
- 161.1 (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds).
The accused faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In the autumn of 2022, the SSU conducted a series of searches at Murayev’s homes and offices in Kyiv. The investigators found cash in russian rubles, weapons; computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of unlawful activity.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
