Following SSU’s investigation, TikTok user who leaked locations of Defence Forces faces prison sentence
In Cherkasy region, the SSU cyber units exposed a blogger who illegally disseminated information on movement of the Defence Forces in the oblast.
The investigation established that he had personally taken photos and videos of the movement of a convoy of Ukrainian military equipment with ammunition.
He then posted the media files with geolocation on his page in TikTok social network.
Within minutes, the video was picked up by russian propaganda Internet communities, including pro-kremlin Telegram channels with a total audience of over 100,000 subscribers.
Over half a million users viewed the content on the TikTok user’s personal page.
The SSU located the blogger and stopped his unlawful activities.
The man explained his actions by a desire to ‘increase’ the subscriber count.
During the search at the suspect’s home, the SSU found the mobile phone, which he used to record the movement of Ukrainian troops and subsequently ‘publish’ the video.
Based on the evidence collected, the detained blogger was served a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (dissemination of information on transfer, movement or location of the AFU or other military formations).
The indictment has been sent to court. The suspect is facing up to 8 years in prison.
The SSU Office in Cherkasy region exposed the offender under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The SSU once again emphasizes the ban to make and publish videos and photos indicating location and movement of the Defence Forces, as well as consequences of enemy strikes.
Publication of such photo and video material on the Internet is qualified as adjusting enemy fire - a crime punishable by law.
