Following SSU’s investigation, four Medvedchuk’s henchmen sentenced to prison for preparing coup d'état in Ukraine

The SSU has collected evidence against an ex-member of Ukrainian parliament Medvedchuk’s four associates who were preparing a forceful seizure of power in Ukraine.

Among the individuals convicted is a russian citizen, a military intelligence officer by profession, who was in direct contact with russia’s presidential administration and intelligence services.

The perpetrators planned to ‘synchronize’ the coup d’état with the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion. In this way, they hoped to help the aggressor in speedy occupation of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, they plotted to seize power through controlled NGOs in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.

It was these pro-kremlin organizations that were supposed to initiate holding a so-called ‘national assembly’ in the capital.

At this ‘forum’, its organizers planned to ‘pass a resolution’ to ‘remove from power’ Ukraine’s top military and political leadership.

In the leaders refuse to be removed, the conspirators planned to switch to a ‘force scenario’. For this purpose, the traitors were forming a ‘combat wing’, to which they tried to attract about 500 armed men.

They used their connections among supporters of ruscism to find ‘candidates’ for the ‘force unit’.

However, the SSU worked proactively and derailed the plotters’ plans. As a result of a multi-stage special operation, the SSU timely identified the organizers, documented their subversive activities and detained them in the early stage of russia’s full-scale invasion.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found the accused persons guilty under Article 109.1 of the CCU (actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of constitutional order or seizure of state power) and sentenced the russian citizen to 10 years, the organizer - to 7 years and his two accomplices - to 5 years in prison.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Ivano-Frankivsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
