Following SSU’s investigation, court convicts organizer of fake referendum in Luhansk region, who came to Kyiv for social benefits

Following the SSU’s investigation, another organizer of the sham referendum on Luhansk region’s accession to russia has been sentenced to prison.

The SSU detained the perpetrator in the spring of 2023 when the woman came to Kyiv.

In the capital, she tried to apply for social benefits as an internally displaced person from the temporarily occupied part of eastern Ukraine.

Given her cooperation with the investigation, the court sentenced her to five and a half years in prison with confiscation of property.

According to the investigation, the offender is a resident of Starobilsk who, after the city was captured, assisted and collaborated with the invaders.

For this, the woman, along with her mother, was appointed to the local occupation ‘election committee’.

There, she was a member of the so-called ‘mobile teams’ that compiled lists of potential ‘voters’ and monitored their arrival at the ‘voting’ to create an appearance of an electoral process.

The collaborator also falsified results of the ‘plebiscite’ and certified this with her signature in the illegal ‘protocols’.

For this, the ‘official’ got a ‘reward’ in russian rubles from the occupiers.

Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 110.2 (encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
  • 111-1.5 (collaboration).

The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
