Following SSU’s investigation, court sentences informant who adjusted russian artillery strikes on Ukrainian Defence Forces in Bakhmut

The SSU collected evidence on another traitor who passed intelligence on locations of the Defence Forces on the eastern front to the occupiers.

Primarily, the aggressor was interested in data on combat positions of Ukrainian troops in Bakhmut.

In addition, the offender provided the occupiers with coordinates of checkpoints and critical infrastructure facilities in the area.

The SSU detained the informant in June 2022 when he was conducting reconnaissance.

A Kalashnikov rifle and a mobile phone with evidence of criminal activity were seized from the suspect.

Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced the russian agent to 7 years in prison.

According to the investigation, the offender is a 36-year-old resident of Bakhmut, whom russian intelligence remotely involved in covert cooperation.

He used anonymous messengers to communicate with the aggressor and transmitted classified information in form of text messages, electronic coordinates and photos of targets.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare and conduct targeted rocket and artillery attacks on Ukrainian positions.

Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the enemy accomplice guilty under the following Articles of the CCU:

  • 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives);
  • 114-2.2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, transfer, movement or deployment of the AFU or other lawful Ukrainian military formations, committed under martial law).

The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the investigation under the supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
