Following SSU investigation, court bans another pro-russian political party in Ukraine
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the Eighth Administrative Court of Appeal in Lviv passed a decision to ban another pro-russian party.
The prohibited entity is the Social and Patriotic Assembly of Slavs (SPAS), which carries out information and subversive activities in favour of the aggressor state.
After the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, representatives of the party spread throughout almost all the temporarily occupied territory.
At present, the leader of this political force, Eduard Kovalenko, is hiding from prosecution in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region and is in direct contact with russia’s FSB.
On the orders of the russian service, he and his party colleagues publicly support the aggressive war against Ukraine.
They call local population to support the aggressor and join the occupation forces.
The party members also speak to russian media supposedly on behalf of ‘ordinary citizens’ of Ukraine and justify russia’s war crimes.
In September 2022, the SSU declared Kovalenko suspect in absentia under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law, by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The indictment has been submitted to the court.
Efforts are underway to bring Kovalenko and his accomplices to justice for crimes against Ukraine.
