Following SSU’s investigation, ex-chief of Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office faces trial for treason

The SSU has completed a pre-trial investigation into the unlawful activities of the former head of Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office, who is suspected of treason.

Investigators have collected evidence that the prosecutor had collaborated with the enemy at his own initiative since the start of russia’s large-scale invasion.

While in office, the suspected official abused his powers to collect information related to military and operational areas, which he later passed on to enemy special services.

The intelligence he sent to russians covered operational situation in the region, impact of shelling, passwords for checkpoints, and information on russian POWs.

For conspiracy, he acted through an intermediary.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted within the criminal proceeding initiated under Article 111.2 of the CCU (treason under martial law). The indictment has been sent to court.

The crime is punishable by 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Mykolaiv region under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Military and Defence Sphere of the Southern region.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court’s verdict.
