Zaporizhzhia region: SSU completes Arab professor murder investigation

Following the SSU investigation, the indictment against 4 individuals was sent to court. These individuals are suspected of the November 2020 murder of Zaporizhzhia National University lecturer Louis Faisal Mutz.

The SSU conducted the investigation into murder for financial gain and abduction.

The degrees of participation in the offence are different. The offenders face from 10 years in prison to life imprisonment.

To remind: in March 2021, the law enforcement found a missing professor’s corpse. He was tortured before being murdered.

According to the investigation, the abduction was organized by a Tunisian citizen.

His involvement in murder was established during the investigation of another case. Early 2021, the offender attempted to discredit a SSU officer, having planted drugs on him.

The pre-trial investigation and relevant examinations confirmed the case and identified his accomplices involved in professor’s abduction and murder. They included three citizens of Ukraine, in particular a law enforcement officer.

The offenders had a developed secret plan to murder the professor.

They are currently charged with robbery followed by intentional murder committed upon prior conspiracy for financial gain.

The operation was conducted by the SSU Main Department of Internal Security jointly with the National Police in Zaporizhzhia region under the supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
