Following SSU investigation, court convicts Kadyrov’s henchman in absentia: he held almost 500 patients of medical institution hostage during Kyiv battle
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU and the National Police, another russian war criminal involved in mass torture of civilians during the battle for Kyiv has been sentenced in absentia.
The criminal is Daniil Martynov, a former deputy head of the russian guard in the Chechen Republic and a member of Kadyrov’s inner circle.
The trial was held in a special court proceeding in the absence of the accused. The court sentenced Martynov to 11 years in prison.
In March 2022, he commanded the seizure of Borodyanka psychoneurological boarding school with a geriatric department.
Martynov personally led the occupation units of kadyrovites, who took 500 people hostage, including children, seriously ill patients of the medical institution, staff and local residents.
The commander in question also ordered to mine the approaches to the orphanage, turning a civilian building into a firing position for the occupiers.
At the same time, the enemy deployed self-propelled artillery systems and Grad multiple rocket launchers on the territory of the facility, from which they fired at nearby villages.
During the liberation of the community, kadyrov’s unit and their leader fled to russia, leaving wounded militants and military equipment on the battlefield.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court found Martynov guilty under Article 438.1 of the CCU (violation of laws and customs of war, cruel treatment of prisoners of war or civilians).
The term of the sentence will begin on the day of the actual detention of the convict.
The special pre-trial investigation was carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
