Zhytomyr city: SBU helps to convict two terrorists
Thanks to SBU records, the Bohun District Court of Zhytomyr sentenced two local residents to 14 years of imprisonment in absentia.
According to intelligence, a group of local residents, active members of a radical group, prepared to commit terrorist attacks in the regional center in 2014. They were going to undermine the situation in the region and “support” L / DNR terrorist organizations.
The SBU documented that the attackers were involved in the preparation of five terrorist attacks. The terrorists have chosen bank and government institutions, a military recruitment and residential area to carry out illegal activities.
In the course of a special operation in August 2014, law enforcement officers detained the organizer of the group and his accomplice, a former paratrooper. SBU officers seized components for five IEDs with charges, explosives totaling 7.6 kg and detonators. Clockworks and chemical components for manufacturing improvised explosives were found as well.
The court found the terrorists guilty for creation of a terrorist group, unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives, preparation for crime, criminal attempt and act of terrorism. The attackers were sentenced up to 14-year imprisonment.
