Judge of Court of Appeal of Cherkasy region convicted
According to the SBU, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine found a judge of the Court of Appeal of Cherkasy Region guilty of committing a corruption offense. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
In 2018, the SBU exposed a judge on taking a bribe.
It was established that the official demanded UAH 30,000 (USD 1,100) from a local resident. For this amount, the offender promised to influence the decision of the local court of first instance not to prosecute the man for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court found the official guilty of abuse of office.
The court’s verdict comes into force thirty days after its promulgation and can be appealed to the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court.
The operation was conducted jointly with the detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau under the supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
Note:
According to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proved through legal procedure and established by a court verdict of guilty.
