Following SSU’s investigation, traitor who left Ukraine to join russian army sentenced to 12 years behind bars

The SSU has collected irrefutable evidence proving the guilt of another enemy accomplice.

The traitor is a citizen of Ukraine, who in 2009 moved to russia for permanent residence and received a russian passport.

In 2013, he was called up for military service in the russian armed forces.

Later, the man decided to continue service in the russian army and in 2016 signed a contract.

The soldier was assigned to the 20th separate motorized rifle brigade based in Volgograd.

The investigation established that this military unit had taken an active part in military operations against the ATO forces in eastern Ukraine.

When the contract expired, after the start of the full-scale invasion, the traitor decided to return to Ukraine.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the offender in May 2022 in Volyn oblast, where the man came using his Ukrainian passport.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found him guilty of high treason (Article 111.1 of the CCU) and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.

The SSU Office in Volyn region carried out the investigation jointly with Volyn Border Guard Detachment under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
