Following SSU’s investigation, russian agent who spied on air defence and checkpoints in Cherkasy oblast sentenced to 15 years in prison

The SSU has collected exhaustive evidence on an FSB agent who provided the enemy with intelligence on locations of Ukrainian air defence systems and checkpoints in Cherkasy region.

The SSU Counterintelligence detained the offender as a result of a special operation in January 2023.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The enemy spy is an employee of a local hospital, whom the FSB recruited remotely in November 2022.

On the aggressor’s instructions, he photographed the Defence Forces’ bases and movements, paying special attention to combat positions of Ukrainian air defence systems.

The invaders were also interested in precise coordinates of checkpoints, number of soldiers there, their weapons and equipment.

Another enemy assignment was to collect information on mobilization, level of training and motivation of our defenders.

The agent transmitted the data in an anonymous chat in a messenger app, sending marks of targets on an electronic map.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare missile strikes on the region.

During the search of the traitor’s home, a mobile phone and a tablet with evidence of covert correspondence with the FSB were seized. A soviet passport and pro-kremlin symbols were also found.

Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy oblast under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
