Following SSU’s investigation, enemy agent from Zhirinovsky’s party sentenced to life imprisonment for adjusting russian missile strikes on Cherkasy region
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, another agent of the GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces) has been convicted for adjusting the aggressor’s air strikes on military and critical infrastructure of Cherkasy oblast.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the traitor ‘red-handed’ in May 2023 when he was photographing the outer ‘perimeter’ of a local Ukroboronprom enterprise.
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The investigators established that the occupiers had asked him for photos and videos of the plant and geolocation of its facilities to prepare a targeted strike on the Ukrainian enterprise.
The agent was a resident of Kherson oblast. After the occupation, he sided with the aggressor and voluntarily joined the liberal democratic party of russia, which until recently was headed by Vladimir Zhirinovsky and set up its ‘cell’ in Kherson.
As a ‘party member’, the man urged local population to support the occupiers and came to russian checkpoints to offer his assistance in the war against Ukraine.
In this way, he came to the attention of the russian military intelligence, which then recruited him and sent to Cherkasy oblast to collect intelligence.
For cover, the spy came to Ukraine’s central region as an internally displaced person.
In Cherkasy oblast, he went to the target areas and tried to identify key transport junctions, as well as coordinates of administrative buildings and defence enterprises.
Anonymous chats in a messenger app were used for communication with the occupiers.
During the detention, the SSU seized from the suspect a mobile phone used for passing intelligence to the GRU.
Based on the evidence, the court found the accused guilty under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
