Following SSU investigation, Ukraine nationalizes UAH 120 million property of Zaporizhzhia region occupation gauleiter Balytskyi
Following an investigation by the SSU, the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the claim of the Ministry of Justice to recover the assets of collaborator Yevhen Balytskyi to the state budget.
The property owned by the traitor through his family – his wife, son and father – was also nationalized.
The seized assets include a Kyiv-based company engaged in aircraft repair and maintenance.
The rest of nationalized property is located in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region.
This includes 5 light aircraft, 3 apartments, a private house, 2 land plots and 4 luxury cars, including a Lexus and a BMW.
As part of the investigation, Ukraine also nationalized 100% of the authorized capitals of six enterprises in the temporarily occupied Melitopol. One of them is a local TV and radio company that works for the aggressor.
The total value of the nationalized property is over UAH 120 mln (USD 2.9 mln).
In late June 2023, following the SSU’s investigation, Balytskyi was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The court then found him guilty under two Articles of the CCU:
- 28.2, 111-1.5 (participation in the organization and holding of illegal referendums in the temporarily occupied territory, committed upon prior conspiracy, by a group);
- 110.2 (deliberate actions committed with the purpose of changing the boundaries of the territory or state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine, committed upon prior conspiracy, by a group).
Balytskyi, a former member of parliament from the banned opposition platform – for life party, was one of the first to publicly support russia’s full-scale invasion.
He was later appointed head of russia’s occupation administration in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia oblast.
The gauleiter’s nationalized property under temporary occupation will be seized in favour of Ukraine as part of future reparations.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Zaporizhzhia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
