After SSU investigation, network of Medvedchuk’s NGOs that prepared coup d’état in Kyiv dissolved
Following the SSU’s investigation, the court upheld the claim of the Ministry of Justice to ban 8 pro-russian organizations coordinated by former member of Ukrainian parliament Viktor Medvedchuk.
Members of these ‘civil organizations’ were planning a coup d’état in Ukraine, which they hoped to synchronize with the start of a full-scale russian invasion in February 2022.
In this way, they hoped to help the aggressor capture Kyiv and subsequently the entire territory of Ukraine in the shortest time.
To do this, these entities were to initiate a so-called ‘national assembly’ in Kyiv.
During this event, it was planned to announce an ultimatum to Ukraine’s top military and political leadership demanding to ‘step down from power’.
In case of refusal, the organizers of the coup intended to seize key government agencies in Kyiv and other regions of the country.
For this purpose, they planned to form combat groups, which were to include over 500 armed men.
In 2022, the SSU uncovered the enemy plans and prevented their implementation. As a result of the special operation, three organizers were detained at the onset of russia’s full-scale invasion.
In August 2023, the persons involved were sentenced to various prison terms. A russian citizen who coordinated the subversive activities of Medvedchuk’s ‘NGOs’ from russia was convicted as well.
Based on the SSU’s investigation, the court has now ruled to ban and forcibly dissolve such organizations:
- international civil organization ‘We the people of Ukraine’;
- all-Ukrainian civil organization ‘Ivan Bohun’s All-Ukrainian Hetman Cossacks’;
- ‘United Cossacks’;
- ‘United Cossacks’ ‘Kharkiv District’;
- ‘United Cossacks’ ‘Baryshivska stanytsia’;
- ‘United Cossacks’ ‘Kyiv District’;
- ‘United Cossacks’ ‘Lviv District’;
- ‘United Cossacks’ ‘Sumy District’.
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in Ivano-Frankivsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
