SSU, with assistance of strategic enterprise’s management, detain Kharkiv design engineers intending to sell secret Ukrainian developments to russia

The SSU in cooperation with the Government and the management of a strategic plant in Kharkiv thwarted russia’s attempt to obtain the latest Ukrainian technological developments in the field of fuel and energy.

As a result of a special operation in Kharkiv region, an enemy agent group was dismantled. They were trying to pass secret documents from a local strategic plant to the aggressor state.

The detained include the head of the design bureau and the deputy head of the plant’s workshop.

According to the investigation, the adversary was interested in schemes, drawings and instructions for the production of steam turbines and their components.

Such turbines are not produced in russia, and before the start of russian aggression against Ukraine, they were continuously purchased from the Kharkiv enterprise.

Such units in russia have almost reached the end of their service life and are in urgent need of replacement or overhaul.

Therefore, russia needed Ukraine’s scientific and technical developments to ensure the operation of the steam plants at Rosatom facilities.

They were also needed to modernize russian thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants to continue uninterrupted electricity supply, including to the factories of russia’s military-industrial complex.

The investigation revealed that the head of the agent group was a resident of Kharkiv, a former business partner of a local plant.

On the invaders’ instructions, the traitors were to steal the ‘necessary’ documents, photograph them and transmit electronically to russia.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes and offices, the SSU seized technical documentation, telephones, laptops, tablets and flash drives with evidence of the crime.

The SSU also seized over 5 million in UAH equivalent from the organizer of the agent group, which he likely received for his ‘work’ for the aggressor.

SSU investigators have served the perpetrators notices of suspicion under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed by a group, under martial law).

The suspects are in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Kharkiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
