Serhii Shyrkov was born on July 22, 1976 in the city of Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region.

After graduating from Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A.S. Makarenko he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

In 2001-2007 he served in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Since 2007 he has served in the SBU Office in Sumy region.

An experienced officer, a talented counterintelligence officer, he repeatedly took part in the anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Lieutenant Colonel Shyrkov was murdered in the line of duty on December 24, 2017 in Sievierodonetsk.

Serhii is survived by his wife and son.
