SBU blocks large-scale production and sale of dangerous counterfeit medicines
The SBU Main Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime officers blocked activities of the criminal group, involved in large-scale underground production of counterfeit medicines from the group of neurostimulators.
Operatives of the special service found that the dealers established clandestine manufacture of counterfeit drugs used in the treatment of diseases associated with dysfunction of the central nervous system. For production of counterfeit they equipped one floor of private house in Kharkiv region.
Then, through an extensive network of pharmacists and pharmacy chains drugs were sold on the territory of Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv and other regions, as well as through the Internet.
The cost of one package of counterfeit drug ranged from UAH 10 thousand. According to preliminary estimates attackers sold medicines in the value of hundreds of thousands hryvnias.
During the sanctioned searches in several regions of Ukraine, at the place of production, the law-enforcement officers detected equipment for production of counterfeit medicines. Ampoules, ready counterfeit, unregistered drugs were seized.
At present all counterfeit medicines produced by criminals are removed from retailers.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Art. 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the involved persons were served notices of suspicion of committing the crime.
The investigations are ongoing.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Main Directorate of the State Fiscal Service in Kyiv under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv.
