The international partners expressed support for the reform complex in the security and defense sector implemented in Ukraine. This theme, among the others, was the objective to discuss during the meeting of Ukraine-NATO Commission at the level of ambassadors, on 15 January in Brussels. SBU representatives participated in meeting as a part of an official government delegation of Ukraine, headed by Dmytro Kuleba, the Vice-Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

“It is a good fact, that a reform of the SBU is on focus of NATO. The Alliance conveyed readiness to support for the reform complex of the Ukrainian defense sector, and also the SBU. The message was very clear. There is a great importance for us to orient ourselves at experience and superior practice of state-members of the Internal Security Reform Organization”, - pointed out an authorized representative of the SBU as a part of the Ukrainian delegation Serhiy Pun`.

Ukrainian side thanked partners for the support and assured that reform of the defense sector is one of the key issues in the state nowadays.

“Ukraine should implement changes, which will make the SBU more modern and effective, more oriented at counterintelligence operations, terrorist combating, protection of the sovereignty and etc. A draft law on reform of the SBU, which is preparing to review in the Parliament at this moment,” – Serhiy Pun` added.

NATO representatives from their side expressed support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. They emphasized activation of anti-corruption measures, safeguarding the independence of judicial branch and SBU reforming are the most urgent for Ukraine.

Also in the nearest future, NATO international partners expect that main directions of the SBU reforming will be represented, in particular, in the frame of meeting at high level of the Ukraine-NATO Joint Working Group in the defense reform issues.

The partners` side assured the Ukrainian delegation in credible support of Alliance for our country on the way to reforming.
