SBU officers blocked the activity of an organized group, members of  which set up large-scale production and sale of synthetic psychotropic substances in the territory of Zhytomyr region.

Operatives of the special service found that the group consisted of 13 persons, including the leader of one of Zhytomyr city NGOs and the AF of Ukraine serviceman.

Components for the drug manufacture attackers ordered via the Internet, as well as in specialized points of trade with chemical compounds. For the purpose of conspiracy the dealers constantly changed the location of "production" and moved to different settlements near the regional center. They sold amphet in bulk through extensive network of dealers. Meetings with customers took place in one of the Zhytomyr city car repair shops. According to intelligence, every month the drug group synthesized and sold up to three kilograms of amphet, which at "black market" prices is almost UAH 1.2 million.

Law enforcement officers detained two active members of the group near the regional center during the synthesis of another consignment of amphetamine.

During over twenty simultaneous searches at places of residence and registration of intruders, and also in cars of drug dealers, law enforcement officers seized almost 250 grams of psychotropic drugs, 300 grams of marijuana, technological equipment, chemical substances and precursors, cash, bank cards, mobile phones, weapons and other evidence of the illegal activity of the group.

Within the framework of a criminal proceeding initiated under Part 2 and Part 3 Art. 307, Part 1 Art. 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the investigations to identify all participants of drug trafficking are under way.

Two drug dealers were served notices of suspicion.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
