SBU exposes ex-officials on “sale" of senior positions in penal system

Officers of the SBU Main Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime detained two offenders, who “sold” senior positions in the penal system.

SBU operatives found that ex-official of the State Criminal-Executive Service, together with the accomplice, proposed for the money to potential candidates providing of appointment to positions, in particular, the position of the head of the penal colony in one of the regions of Ukraine for USD 20 thousand. The offenders searched the "clients" for the promotion among the active middle level heads of the penal system.

Persons involved in the proceedings alleged the contacts in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. According to the SBU, one of the intruders really has close relations with one of the senior officials of the Ministry of Justice. The information about possible involvement of an official in the deal is being checked by the pre-trial investigation.

The law enforcement officers detained both offenders on receiving the entire amount of the illegal financial gain in the café in the center of Kyiv city.

Currently the involved persons have been served notices of suspicion of committing the crimes stipulated by Part 3 Art. 190, Part 4 Art. 27. Part 2 Art. 28 and Part 3 Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigative actions are ongoing.

The operation on the disclosure of offenders was conducted jointly with the Investigative Unit of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv city, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Local Prosecutor's Office No. 7.
