SBU officers exposed on systematic bribes the chief state inspector of the Main Directorate of the State Labour Service in Odesa region.

Operatives of the special service established that the official extorted bribes from private entrepreneurs for closing the eyes to detected violations of labour legislation.

In particular, the attacker wanted to obtain from the local businessman USD 1 thousand for closing the eyes to violations in the field of labour protection and granting permission to continue economic activity. Law enforcement officers detained inspector in the center of Odesa while obtaining USD 500 - the final part of bribe. Obtaining by the official of the first half of the amount was documented at the end of last year.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of committing the crime stipulated by Part 1 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In order to identify other episodes of the case and to establish possible involvement of other officials of the State Labour Service into corruption scheme the investigative actions are ongoing.  The detection operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Odesa region.
