Chernihiv region: SBU detains corrupt chief inspector of Customs House
SBU officers exposed an official of “Novi Yarylovychi” customs post of the State Customs Service of Ukraine on a systematic bribery.
Operatives of the special service established that the chief state inspector set up extortion of improper advantage from citizens for free registration of vehicles.
Law enforcement officers detained the offender at his desk on his receiving regular bribe amounting to UAH 6,000. SBU officers previously documented receiving by the customs official of another UAH 4,000 of illegal financial gain.
During the searches at the place of residence of involved person, over USD 10 thousand and more than UAH 60 thousand were found.
In the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the investigations are under way to establish other officials of the Customs, possibly involved in illegal activities. The issue of serving notice of suspicion to the detainee is under consideration.
The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
