In Ivano-Frankivsk region SBU investigation helped to convict four smugglers who illegally imported buprenorphine from Europe.

SBU operatives established that previously convicted residents of Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Transcarpathia region organized smuggling of drug-containing pills “Subutex” from a European country.

In spring of 2016, law enforcement stopped the offenders’ minibus at “Shehyn” customs checkpoint. During the search of vehicle was found 30 thousand of illegal pills. The cost of seized pills tops UAH 10 million (сirca USD 408,200) on the black market.

For smuggling and illegal drug trafficking the resident of Ivano-Frankivsk was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property, three accomplices – to 10 years.

The Court of Appeal upheld the judgment of the first-instance court.
