SBU detains corrupt director of Odesa state enterprise

The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv the director of Odesa state enterprise, who extorted more than half a million hryvnias from the head of the security company.

According to the investigation, the official demanded a “kickback" from the director of the firm, which provides security of the territory and buildings of the state enterprise. Size of monthly "tribute" for the prolongation of the contract, he set in the amount of UAH 205 thousand.

Later, during the meeting with an entrepreneur, official put forward requirement to give him UAH 553 thousand for the period from December 2019 to February 2020.

Under the control of law enforcement officers, entrepreneur transferred agreed amount in two parts. During the transfer of the second tranche in the amount of UAH 500 thousand, the director of the state enterprise was detained in the capital according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

Within the criminal proceedings initiated under part 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a possible involvement in the deal of the director of the state enterprise of law enforcement officers is being checked.

The pre-trial investigation is under way.

The operation was conducted jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations, under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office.
