The Security Service of Ukraine exposed on systematic bribes the inspector of the Patrol Police Respond Sector of Volodymyr-Volynskyi district of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Volyn region, involved in obtaining illegal benefit.

According to preliminary investigation, official established the mechanism of extortion money from the drivers. For different amounts of bribes, he promised the citizens do not draw up reports of traffic violation, as well as "guaranteed" returning of seized vehicles. The involved person has engaged his friends in illegal activity, in particular, ex-policemen, as mediators for obtaining of illegal benefit.

Law enforcement officers detained mediator in accordance with the Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on one of Volodymyr-Volynskyi streets while giving bribe to him in the amount of UAH 5 thousand. For this amount the criminals promised driver to “shield” him from responsibility for drink-driving, as well as to return seized driver’s license and vehicle registration certificate. Within the framework of initiated criminal proceedings, the mediator and the inspector of the Patrol Police Respond Sector of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi district were served notices of suspicion under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigative actions on bringing to responsibility other people involved in the illegal activity are under way.

The operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigations, located in Lviv city, under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Volyn region.
