Zakarpattya region: SBU exposes corrupt chief of SES structural unit

SBU suspects a chief of one of the units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Zakarpattya region of a systematical receiving of illegal financial gain.

Investigation suggests that the chief of a special rescue unit extorted bribes for facilitation in employment to the unit, which he headed. In particular, for de-miner position he demanded USD 3,000.

According to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine the law enforcement detained him at his office in Uzhhorod when he received the first part of bribe amounting to USD 300. In the framework of criminal proceedings initiated under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the issue on serving to the detainee a notice of suspicion is being solved.

The investigative actions are ongoing.

The implication of other officials in corruption is being identified. The operation was conducted jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Zakarpattya region.
