The SBU Main Directorate of Internal Security with the Military Prosecutor's Office and the Territorial Administration of the State Bureau of Investigations, located in Lviv city, blocked corruption scheme organized by officials of Mukachevo border detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, officials established a mechanism for obtaining unlawful benefits for free movement beyond the checkpoints to the European Union of wholesale quantities of counterfeit excisable tobacco products.

The operatives of the special service detained the inspector of the border detachment, who is one of the active participants of the deal, near the workplace after receiving USD 800 for moving across the state border of almost 23 thousand packs of counterfeit cigarettes. Previously, law enforcement officers documented the receipt by the offender of the first tranche.

Within the framework of a criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the offender was served a notice of suspicion.

The investigations are ongoing. In particular, the involvement of the border detachment leadership and the SBU regional Office official into protection of smuggling and corruption offences is being checked.

The exposing measures were conducted with the officers of the SBU Office in Zakarpattya region.
