Poltava region: SBU stops embezzlement of state funds amounting to UAH 1 million for lyceum reconstruction
SBU exposed embezzlement of state funds for reconstruction of one of the educational institutions in Poltava region.
Allegedly, the representatives of the commercial entities, involved in the overhaul of the lyceum on the territory of Kremenchuk region, organized a mechanism of embezzlement of state funds. The contractors artificially raised construction prices, particularly, on installing heating system at the educational establishment.
According to intelligence, almost UAH 1,000,000 (USD 25,660,000) of state funds were stolen over a period of 2018-the first half of 2019.
During searches at the suspects’ workplaces and residences, the law enforcement found information on the actual expenses of contracting companies and other financial records proving illegal activity.
The pre-trial investigation on establishing all circumstances of the case and bringing to criminal responsibility other persons involved in the illegal activity are under way within the framework of criminal proceeding under Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The operation was carried out jointly with the police investigators under the procedural supervision of the Kremenchuk local Prosecutor's Office and with the assistance of the Poltava Regional State Administration.
