Dnipropetrovsk region: SBU blocks illegal issuance of documents allowing police officials to buy traumatic weapons
SBU uncovered and blocked a large-scale scheme of the illegal issuance of documents due to which the officials of prevention police units in Dnipropetrovsk region were able to buy traumatic weapons.
Allegedly, an inspector of prevention sector of the Kamyansk Police division and a senior inspector of the Regional Police Department organized a scheme for unlawful registration of permits for residents to acquire traumatic weapons. The clients were persons without a legitimate reasons to buy weapons.
For various sums of money the policemen offered people a "simplified" procedure for obtaining permits without medical examination and passing exams on the use of weapons.
The price of documentation package ranged from USD 350 to USD 700.
SBU officers detained both policemen under Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine after receiving the next bribe.
During the searches in offenders’ offices law enforcement found documents proving the unlawful activity and almost UAH 100,000 (USD 3,700) allegedly obtained illegaly.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion is being decided according to Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigation is ongoing in order to establish individuals involved in the illegal activity and to bring them to justice.
Operation was conducted jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Poltava city under the legal supervision of Prosecutor’s Office of Poltava region.
