Kharkiv region: SBU blocks supply of drugs to convicts in penal colony

SBU blocked the systematic sale of drugs among the prisoners in Dykanivska Penal Colony No.12 in Kharkiv region.

Allegedly, a commander of the State Enforcement Service unit organized the supply of marijuana to convicts.

Using his authority, the official freely brought drugs into the penal colony. For various sums of money the offender sold the goods to prisoners.

SBU officers documented the sale of marijuana and psychotropic medications.

Law enforcement detained the commander of penal colony unit under the Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine after the supply of drugs.

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainee for illegal production, making, purchasing, storage, transportation, sending or sale of narcotics, psychotropic substances or their analogues is now being settled. Custody is being chosen as a form of detention.

Investigation is ongoing in order to establish individuals involved in the illegal activity and to bring them to justice.

Operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Poltava city, the Internal Security Division of the State Enforcement Service Administration and under the legal supervision of Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv region.
