SBU in Volyn region blocked large-scale industrial production of counterfeit sanitizing products.

Officers of the Main Directorate of Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Economic Sphere of the SBU jointly with the SBU Office in Volyn region exposed the illegal mechanism of large-scale manufacturing and sale of counterfeit antiseptic products.

Allegedly, the dealers set up an underground production of an antiseptic of a well-known brand. Experts testified that the illegally manufactured product did not give sanitizing effect. Its use could cause harm to the life and health of the population and lead to unpredictable serious consequences, including the accelerated spread of viral infections.

The law enforcement officers detained a truck carrying a counterfeit worth over UAH 2 million (USD 70,000), including almost a ton of counterfeit antiseptic products. During the investigation at the place of manufacture of counterfeits, law enforcement found a large number of raw materials for the manufacture of counterfeit medicines, as well as hygienic products of well-known European brands, empty packaging, containers and bottling equipment.

SBU investigators initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 204, Part 2 of Art. 199 and Part 2 of Art. 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office, the issue of confiscating the seized property, taking preventive measures against detained persons and serving them notices of suspicion are being solved.
