SBU checks regional electricity distribution company for possible damage to energy industry
SBU officers are investigating the alleged involvement of officials of a regional electricity distribution company in damaging the critical infrastructure facilities.
SBU jointly with the National Commission on State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities initiated the checking and revealed that the officials of the joint-stock company deliberately entered into the accounting documentation misleading information about the volume of finished work on the renewal of regional energy facilities.
Over the past year, the costs, which consumers pay for, amounted to almost UAH 140 million (circa USD 5.2 million). Citizens' funds had to be spent on the operational renewal of the industry, on the reconstruction and building of the new economic objects.
Allegedly, the officials misappropriated over UAH 70 million (USD 2.6 million) entering the false data to the report about finished works at the facilities. Less than half of the facilities were renewed.
Such actions could cause disruption and overload of the regional energy sector and lead to the emergencies.
Investigation is ongoing within the initiated criminal proceeding in order to establish all conditions and officials involved in the mentioned offense.
The issue on taking regulatory measures to the licensee by the National Commission on State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities is being decided.
