SBU CI Department uncovers former MI official recruited by Russian special services

SBU Counterintelligence Department uncovered and terminated in Dnipro city the subversive activity of agent of the Russian special services.

Allegedly, a resident of the regional center, ex-official of the Ministry of Interior, fulfilled contact with representatives of Russia’s FSB during his stay in Russia. The attacker was ordered to collect information on the number of personnel, on the deployments and weapons of the Ukrainian military units in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region.

Moreover, FSB representatives were interested in data about the servicemen and the law enforcement involved in the Joint Forces Operation.

The agent had to send the collected data to the Russian supervisors via established telecommunication channels.

During searches at the offender’s place of residence SBU officers found evidence proving his illegal activity. Currently, SBU investigators served a suspicion notice of committing the crime to the involved person under Part 1 Art.111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The article provides from 12 to 15 years of imprisonment. The form of detention was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Dnipropetrovsk region.
