FSB agent exposed by SBU counterintelligence is sentenced to 12 years imprisonment

On 2 April, 2020, the verdict of the Rivne City Court entered into force, which provides for 12 years imprisonment of FSB agent Oleh Smorodinov. The criminal was detained by the SBU counterintelligence. Former employee of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs is found guilty of high treason.

Counterintelligence officers established that twice previously convicted the ethnic Russian Smorodinov in January-February of 2016 was recruited by FSB officer Maxim Zhyvyl.

FSB officer assigned the agent the task to identify residences and work places of particular servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from among the participants of the ATO/JFO and participants in the Russian-Georgian conflict in 2008.

Smorodinov provided the collected intelligence in reports on optical disks that passed to the curator in Russia.

SBU officers documented that in July 2016, Smorodinov was tasked to come to Ukraine and to kill a former serviceman of Rivne detention facility.

FSB representative promised Smorodinov to recruit him to the police in temporarily annexed Crimea for task performance.

On 16 September, 2016, the criminal completed the task and killed a major Ivan Mamchur in the porch of his house.

During the special operation on November 17, 2016, SBU counterintelligence officers detained FSB agent on crossing the Russian-Ukrainian border.
