Transcarpathian region: SBU exposes state forestry official on illegal sale of timber
SBU exposed in Transcarpathian region an official of state enterprise “Velykobychkivske forestry and hunting enterprise” on systematic bribe-taking.
Allegedly, the official set up a scheme of getting unlawful benefit from illegal sale of timber. For money, the official “guaranteed” to local businessmen not to interfere with transportation of big batches of valuable timber from the territory of the forestry without official permits.
SBU documented two facts of illegal sale of 12 CBM of unrecorded ashwood for USD 1,200.
SBU detained the suspect in his office on receiving another “tranche” of unlawful benefit (in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine).
The issues of serving the detainee a notice of suspicion and choosing a form of detention are being decided. The investigation upon the fact of taking a bribe by an official (P. 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is ongoing to bring to justice all the persons involved into the illegal scheme.
The operation was conducted compliant to the President’s Decree “On measures concerning forest conservation and efficient use of forest resources”, jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathian region.
