The SBU uncovered a corrupt official of the Main Department of the State Migration Service in Kharkiv region.

According to intelligence, the chief specialist of the unit of prevention of illegal migration extorted and received money from foreigners.

SBU operatives documented that the offender received from a foreigner USD 2,500 for unimpeded and expedited procedure for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.

Law enforcement detained the corrupt official on receiving the full sum of bribe in Kharkiv city. 

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion of committing a crime, stipulated by P.3 
Art.368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, is being settled. The type of detention is now being chosen.

Investigation is ongoing in order to identify and bring to criminal responsibility other officials of the State Migration Service possibly involved in the illegal activity. 

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Poltava city under the legal supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv region.
