Court choses 60 days in custody as type of detention to FSB agent Shaitanov
Today, Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv city chose the custody for 60 days as a type of detention to the exposed by the SBU counter-intelligence FSB agent Valery Shaitanov.
On 14 April, he was detained for conduction of intelligence and terrorist activities for the FSB to the detriment of Ukrainian national security. On the same day, the SBU investigators served Major general Shaitanov a notice of suspicion of committing a crime stipulated by P.1 Art.111 (“High treason”) and Art.258 (“Terrorist attack”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing within a criminal proceeding under the legal supervision of Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.
We remind that the Head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov considers this detention to be evidence that new approaches to the work of the Service give significant results.
“Unfortunately an individual that was promoted to general after the Revolution of Dignity and was supposed to protect Ukraine, in reality was working against its interests. We have conducted a long-term, complex, and multi-layered operation. This is the most important exposure conducted by the SBU,” said the SBU Head Ivan Bakanov.
“In addition to increasing the SBU efficiency we are cleaning it up. We focus on counterintelligence and matters of national security. We will keep defending our country and expose traitors regardless their positions,” pointed out Ivan Bakanov.
